It is a well written book about Alabama's 1966 squad.

They were coming off back to back national titles (I believe that is correct).

Their 1966 squad not only went undefeated in the regular season, they pulverized Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.

So you're coming off 2 national titles - you go undefeated and cream your bowl opponent - and you don't win a 3rd national title in a row?

The governor of Alabama wasn't exactly a popular guy with the national media (understatement), including the UPI and Associated Press writers and voters....

That was the year of the Michigan State / Notre Dame 10/10 tie.

I believe the writers gave the national title to once tied Notre Dame over Alabama (Michigan State might have finished 2nd?).

And Bear Bryant is on record as saying that 1966 team might have been his best.
