The season was successful because Cuonzo did an amazing job coaching this team, Kassius Robertson was much better than expected, and Barnett was better than expected. Other factors as well, but that is largely what drove our overall results.
Specific to the Porter's:
- Sr signed a 3 year contract and appears like he will work 1 year of that contract, and didn't bring any other recruits in other than his sons
- We got a commitment from Blake Harris almost exclusively because of his connection to the Porter's, and he quit in the middle of the season and transferred
- Jr went from the projected #1 overall pick to likely being outside the top 5 and lost every game he played for MU
- Rather than finishing up his high school career and preparing to join MU as one of the top players in the nation, Jontay reclassified and contributed single digit ppg to a 20 win team that lost in the first round of the NCAA tourney. He appears poised to be a back end of the 1st round or early 2nd round pick with a G-League career ahead of him.
Jontay was certainly a positive surprise in terms of early impact, but overall I think it is very fair to say the results did not live up to the hype and it was at a macro level rather disappointing specific to the Porter's impact on MU basketball.
