I'm with you, there's a ton of value there, but in the MLB guys with 200k's are Gods if they hit 30 homers. Look at Kris Bryant.

They teach kids now to have a slight uppercut as opposed to the downward swing I was raised on that helps produce line drives. Singles don't do much for your slugging % and the other metrics that are now weighted so much more highly in the sabermetric world.

Another manifestation of this is how bunting has waned. Its still part of the game in college baseball, but not as much as it used to be. In the bigs, you will only see bunting in the late innings of a tied or 1 run game, and even then 90% of the time in the National League.
