Softball team fundamentals are lacking

Game after game you see routine plays turned into mistakes.

Last inning Wilmes bobbles a double play ball and in haste bats it at the shortstop who is standing on second base like a statue and everybodies safe. SS time your arrival at second to allow your momentum to propel you to a stronger throw to first. Stay away from the base also to permit the 2nd baseman 2 steps for the force and the relay. 3rd part in this case the batted ball by wilmes could have possibly been seen and caught with a quick reaction, but not when you’re 3 feet away. The error was on Wilmes no doubt, but a high school player should know how to cover a base properly.
See these kind of issues all the time. Last weekend one example is in a close game the first baseman steps on first to remove a force out at home, and allowed a run on easy play.
Their still my team but the mental errors really bother me.
