worth 2 pts. On backside they are worth 1.
There exists a situation where you can score more points on the backside than the winner of the tournament. That being where you score a combination of winning results on the backside than that winner does on the front side.
For example.
Winner on front side wins all matches by regular decision aka less than 8 points. Whereas a wrestler on the back side loses 1st round but then pins their way through the backside to 3rd place.
In a 32 man bracket in that situation the 3rd place competitor would score 27 points whereas the 1st place finisher would score 24.
very unlikely situation but it is possible. Thats why teams that do win team competitions in wrestling are always hammering their guys to get those bonus points.
It is also the reason why we haven't won a national championship in years past. We've had the opportunity but our guys have been content with just wins as opposed to bonus point situations.
