#5 Miss State dismissed LSU on the road 83-70. It was close after one quarter but McCowan took over and finished with 31/20, she is a beast inside. Porter is going to need a lot of help handling her. LSU found out life isn't so easy when you are playing a team at full strength, even at home.
#7 Tennessee played around with an awful Vandy team at home, leading just 65-62 heading into the 4th quarter, then turned on the jets and won going away, 86-73. Same script as their previous win at home against Auburn. You have to wonder if/when playing down to the level of the competition is going to bite them. Now comes the brutal part of their schedule where we find out if they are really a top 10 team, or something just a little bit less. TAMU, South Carolina, Notre Dame, and Miss State, with the first 3 on the road.
#19 TAMU took care of business on the road against a decent Auburn team, 82-73.
And in a really ugly game between 2 teams fighting for NCAA bids, Georgia throttled a Kentucky team that is sinking fast out of sight, giving them their 8th straight loss, 56-42. Both teams had 18 turnovers, and shot horribly from the field. Georgia shot only 28%, 15/54, and Kentucky was even worse, 20% on 11/54 from the field. Georgia won a key road game, while Kentucky is going to have to do some damage against the ranked teams in the SEC at home to resurrect their fading tournament hopes. Just shocking that they weren't even competitive at home yesterday. Georgia has been my dark horse SEC team all year long, and while Miss State throttled them in Athens a week ago by 24 points, I think they are going to surprise some good teams this year. Hope it isn't us on Jan 25 in Athens.
