They sent him on fishing trips when there was a official function or pretty much anything he could get hammered at and make an ass out of himself.
Damage control.
Generally a real surprise to Tom & all that anybody would hire him to be a head coach.
Worth noting warren was Hc at Washington state a year before Mizzou hired him. Warren took unranked WS into Lincoln & beat them, then the next year did the same with Mizzou
