Thermostat issue

In the new place, The thermostat is located in the hallway and on the other side of the utility room wall, where all my natural gas stuff operates. The room is obviously warm due to that and I think it warms the wall making the thermostat register a higher interior temp falsely. When I'm not running the a/c, and walk past the thermostat, it still displays an absurd temp that it clearly is not in the house. The a/c seemed to have run a lot last summer as a result.

Does that seem plausible? I think I should install the thermostat in a different location.

Anyone have something similar or had and what did you do, if anything?
