water & insurance gets tricky

ground water(water coming in through foundation, or water flowing at ground level & entering home) = flood. No homeowners policy on Earth covers it, you have to have a separate Flood policy (most common flood insurance is through the FEMA-backed government program, and it sucks)

Water that backs up through your drains in the basement/sewer water. That *can" be covered if you have the extra Backup of Sewer endorsement on your policy. Costs you extra, so a lot of people don't want it. It's well worth it IMHO.

Most other sources of water (leaking roof, broken pipe, leaking appliance/toilet/shower/etc) are all going to be covered under standard homeowners insurance
