I doubt if it was simply about an education...

But that's just an educated guess, an opinion. I'm not aware that she has discussed her reasons for changing her commitment in public with anyone. As a Mizzou fan though I am very curious to know if her decision had anything to do with a perception that Mizzou is not a welcoming environment for an elite pitcher right now.
I believe it's most likely a combination of factors, and not just education alone. Have no idea what she intends to major in or if she even knows that at this point. If she was interested in journalism, for example, Mizzou is great, but NW is as good or better. But face facts, she is an elite softball pitcher, and she intends to play in college, so she is going to want to be at a school where she feels comfortable and compete at a high level. She gets much less of that high level competition at NW as compared to Mizzou, but I'm pretty certain her decision on where to go would have at least an element of softball in addition to education.
She has an older sister who just completed a very successful career at NW, and likely has told Danielle that it is a great environment with great coaches. I think it strains credulity to think that the turmoil at Mizzou had no factor at all in her decision. My question is how much.
We will see over the coming months and years how badly Mizzou has been damaged with what happened here. Right now it doesn't look like the damage is great. But time will tell, as all the kids in the pipeline who have verbally committed either honor those promises or don't.
I do agree that a kid at 17 can just have different ideas, radically different, than when they are 13-14, as any parent can attest to. And yes some kids will verbally commit early then change their minds. But it's a short list IMO; far more honor those commitments and come to the school they chose.
My final thought is she pitches at an elite level, is a major talent, and she and her parents know that. They know full well how devastating it was to Mizzou for her to back out at this late time in the recruiting process, leaving us with just 4 months to replace her in our 2018 class, with nearly every other elite, comparable talent already committed elsewhere. They know how seriously this screwed Mizzou. Had to be a pretty big reason to do that. I can't believe she just thought the educational experience at NW would be more fulfilling. That doesn't make sense.
