on Thursday night, run ruling a good Notre Dame team 8-0 in 5 innings, then losing to Texas 10-3. A mixed bag for Mizzou, which may be par for the course this year.

Madi Norman pitches the 5 inning shutout against Notre Dame, striking out 10, walked 3, scattered 4 hits. That's 2 shutout wins on the young season for the Tipton MO transfer from Louisville. So far looks like an excellent addition, who might help this team be respectable in a rebuilding year.

Against Texas we battled a good team hard into the 6th inning, was a 4-3 game before Texas scored 6 in the 6th inning including a grand slam. A pretty brutal game for Mizzou pitchers (hope I'm wrong but I think we will be hearing that phrase many times this year). Baxter started, I suppose that means we are saving the freshman Conrad for Washington today. She walked the first 2 batters, always a bad sign for her, then threw a 2 out wild pitch to let in a run. Put down the side in order in the 2nd inning, then hit the first batter in the 3rd and got yanked by EE for Baumgartner, who had a forgettable night. She gave up 11 hits and 8 runs in just 4 innings, walked 3, hit a batter, threw a wild pitch. Baxter came back for the 7th inning and gave up 2 more walks.

Mizzou left 11 runners on base against Texas. Couldn't be a better time for Sanchez to return to the lineup, although you have to wonder how effective she will be right away having not played at all in game situations. The good news is Rathburn seems to be rounding into form, and Mack, Pierce, and Burnside continue their strong hitting. Once Sanchez is back we should have an offense that can generate some runs. But the season hopes still rest on a young pitching staff. It's still early but I suspect we are going to soon settle into a weekend rotation with Norman and Conrad being the starters and Baumgartner and Baxter contributing in relief spots.

Still on track for a 3-2 finish this weekend which I thought was the best that could be hoped for. Hope I'm wrong but I think the game today against Washington will get ugly. Should beat UCSB, so it will come down to the game against current 0-8 Nebraska to decide whether we finish 3-2 or 2-3.

Looking forward to the on the scene reports and observations on all the games in Palm Springs.
