would just go away. But it's a sports message board so I'm going to weigh in and exercise my God-given right to say something stupid or irrelevant on the Internet.
How anyone can say definitively that almost all of X college team is straight, or half of X high school team is gay, is beyond me. How the heck would someone know that? How would someone have that knowledge? From appearances alone? Really? I can tell you from experience that is false.
Having said that, my belief is that there is very likely a considerably higher percentage of female athletes at the college level who are gay as opposed to their male counterparts. To which I say, so what?
And finally, what Wiggens says has the ring of truth to me, even though I have no personal knowledge of her situation. But common sense and history tells you that minorities of any kind are ripe for being discriminated against in some way or form by majorities. And sexual orientation is the new frontier for discriminatory actions against persons. Even though in Wiggins specific situation she is alleging something the opposite of how sexual orientation discrimination is playing out in most other situations around the country.
