A few years ago, they did an analysis. I forget what the cutoff number was for cumulative starts on o-line, but it was around 60.
Every team ranked in preseason who fell under that number finished the season unranked. At least a half dozen teams who started the season unranked but were over that line, ended up being ranked.
Now, one season may just be the extreme, but if you track it out, it tends to hold.
Each of MU's largest season-season slips in the last 15 years have come with big o-line overhauls.
