its initial top 16 seeds for this season yesterday. A lot of basketball still to be played but it gives you an idea what they are looking at, similar to when college football does the same thing.
No real surprises here, as the top 16 includes only teams ranked in the top 18 in the RPI as of yesterday. The order is different of course for many teams. For the SEC, 3 teams are in the initial rankings, South Carolina and MSU are #3 and #4 overall, both #1 seeds. And Kentucky is at #15 overall, sneaking in as a #4 seed despite not being ranked in the current poll. Which makes the point that scheduling matters. UK schedules tough, and is at #14 in the RPI as of yesterday.
The rest of the SEC teams checked in on the RPI ranking yesterday at:

21 TAMU
23 Auburn
26 LSU
48 Mizzou
63 Florida
97 Arkansas
103 Ole Miss
107 Alabama
110 Georgia
120 Vandy
Mizzou has a real opportunity to improve its RPI ranking between now and the end of the season, with 5 of the last 9 regular season games against teams with very good RPIs, all in the top 23 currently, and 4 of those 5 against top 15 teams.
Auburn on Thursday night in Columbia is going to be tough. They have one of the best trapping defenses I've seen this year. Turnovers will be a key to that game.
