Mizzou football is going to make one last push with its current roster, and then will sink into SEC obscurity. Florida, George, S. Carolina and Tennessee will outpace Mizzou in recruiting, and will in time establish themselves above us.
Mizzou basketball has some natural advantages when it comes to basketball however. The current AD/coaching staff has the right vision for Mizzou basketball: regional recruiting power, not a national destination school. If we continue to focus on in-state talent, extending out to E. St. Louis, Chicago, Little Rock, Omaha, Dallas...the Midwest region generally, we should be able to recruit very competitively with the other schools in our region.
Our problem is that we have this minority of our fanbase who sees Mizzou as the next Duke, Kentucky or KU, recruiting McDonald's All-American 5 star recruits from every corner of the United States. That model will not ever work for Mizzou.
In any event, regardless of who the coach is, Mizzou basketball will be back in Phillips/Puryear's senior year. Mizzou basketball will be able to build off of the success and should find itself routinely in the top half of the SEC conference in basketball.
