Seriously, how does this non conference schedule prepare Mizzou for the rigors of the tough SEC conference? Once again Pingeton had dumbed down the non conference schedule like she has a team of timid freshmen who needs their egos boosted. But she has a loaded, veteran team that is going to be projected in the top 25 to start the season. So why schedule so many cupcakes and blow out wins? This year? Really?

First the good, and only good. We start the season in the WNIT. After the sacrificial lamb at home (Abeline Christian), we will be on the road against a tough Nebraska team. If we win that there are potential match ups against Washington in the semifinals and Notre Dame in the finals. I dont think that happens. I dont see us getting past Nebraska on the road.

After that the non conference schedule is just disgraceful for a potential top 25 team. It does nothing whatsoever to prepare Mizzou for the rigors of the SEC. It is a disservice to the team, frankly.

11 games. 7 at home. Only 2 true road games. Against SLU and IUPUI. Not a single game against a power 5 conference team, unless Georgia Tech beats Dayton in the first round of a tourney on a neutral court in the Bahamas. 6 of those 11 games against teams who finished last year with RPIs over 100. 3 of those teams with RPIs over 200. 1 over 300. Why are we even scheduling teams like these. All the other games against teams that finished in the 50-100 range.

Hey, the potential WNIT games are great, if we get to them. And I'm not saying play the Connecticuts and Baylors every week. But besides one potential game in the WNIT to start the season, the rest of the non conference schedule is just awful.

If Pingeton really aspires to making Mizzou a top 25 team that actually wins NCAA tournament games, she needs to show some confidence in her team and give them a big girls schedule. To prepare them for the SEC and give them something to talk about when the crucial seeding decisions are being made by the selection committee.
