he stated that he felt that Barry Odom was facing the most difficult task of any new-hire coach in modern Mizzou history. Yes, Odom was walking into a more difficult situation than the state of the program when Pinkel arrived.
He thought Odom would need a few years to build the program back up to be competitive in the SEC, but didn't know if he'd be allowed that much time by a new AD that didn't hire him.
When asked who he felt had the tougher job, Odom at Mizzou or David Beaty at kansas, Barnett said definitely Odom, just because there are high expectations that are initially unrealistic. He thinks this is a total rebuild job for the program, moreso than just a continuation of what Pinkel built.
