it could maintain a rival (ARKY) and it fits culturally with the conference - football, basketball, baseball, track - it's a really good fit. The problem for OU is not wanting to give up recruiting in Texas.

I think UT could survive without the rivalry if it goes to the PAC12/16 because you could have historic teams (USC, UCLA) and you have an academic profile that fits (Stanford, Cal) - especially if you could associate ND with that conference (UT/ND/USC) is a pretty good 3-headed monster from a historical perspective.
