Illinois was dreadful last year. And they had to kick their second-leading scorer off the team this spring. But they do have some experience-- their best player, Malcolm Hill, is a senior. Tracy Abrams is also coming back for a sixth year after missing last season with an injury. They actually might have three senior starters.
So it's very possible that Illinois is much better this year. But they were still 15-19 a year ago, so sitting here in July, it's really impossible to say which program will be in a better spot come late December in St. Louis.
