Some Mizzou sports and Mizzou fans over the years have kind of settled in to where their sport typically ranks in the Big 8/Big 12 and in the nation. The goal becomes to reach or somewhat exceed that comfort level.
Now, no coach or athlete actually consciously sets a target other than a championship, or admits it if they do. But the evidence shows that's what happens.
The best thing that could happen for MU athletics is to change the rules, change the parameters, throw away the old yardstick and get a new one.
It may result in some coaches being forced to learn a new approach. It may result in some coaches being replaced.
Either way, it can only be good for MU Athletics over the long haul.
No hand-wringing allowed.
Reconcile by winning.
