A reporter covering a Missouri AAU tournament witnessed the following exchange between kansas coach Bill Self and super-recruit John Wall, which occurred during an evaluation period when coaches can observe recruits but can’t have contact, a rule Coach Self doesn’t seem to have much time for.
That’s what was so curious when Kansas coach Bill Self came rolling through. … Of course, Wall is the top uncommitted recruit. Self had to know I was a reporter and even said hello to me. I just thought he’d stand there, maybe even wave to Wall to let him know he was there. Instead, when the Holy Rams poured out of the locker room, Self was excited:
Self: “Johnny, great win man. You really played well.”
Self: “I’m not supposed to be talking to you, and you know that, but I just wanted to tell you that was a great win.”
Of course ku was again on major probation for Lack of Institutional Control at the time this documented violation occurred. And the NCAA report of that probation issued to ku states:
"The committee will monitor the penalties during their effective periods, and any action contrary to the terms of any of the penalties or any additional violations shall be considered grounds for extending the institution's probationary period, as well as imposing more severe sanctions in this case."
Of course...no action was ever taken.Edited by FIJItiger at 12:22:25 on 08/01/12
