Local business has a deal. With rebate from KCP&L and a payment from a gov grant, the out of pocket is around six grand for a typical two bedroom house.
The guy said at this amount you are usually paid back in two years. He said they are nearly maint free for ten years. (The most important thing is make sure your roof is new or good enough to last 20 years - don't want to remove your panels in five years to re-roof then re-install.)
I was inspecting a church when they were finishing the installation and he pointed out the arrow that shows the direction of the feed. When the A/C shut off the arrows reversed and the church was then selling power back to KCP%L. I asked if KCP&L was real thrilled about being forced to buy the power, he said they buy it for 5 cents/unit and sell at 11 cents so they will take all of the solar help they can get - to a saturation point.
So it sounds too good to be true. Tell me the bad part I am (like always) missing.
