You make a great point that winning a conference leads to a higher ranking.
The issue that I've heard from people in the SEC is that the computers are "top secret". Nobody knows the formula. Nobody knows what is changed every year.
The problem with much of the voting is that many polls which are in the computer formula are also hidden from public view.
If you create a system where the people who are selected to vote are graded upon with regard to their opinions, you are going to have a selection system that passes the sniff test.
Like I said in another post. The worst thing in the world is not including a team that doesn't belong. The worst thing is excluding the right team that deserves to be there.
The fact that it will be determined on the field will sort out the players and pretenders.
