and making the system "transparent" as you say would not mean that it is infallible not in the slightest. I don't see that tranparency equates to getting it right and I'm not sure how you came up with that as an issue.
As long as there is a human component to the selection process it could easily be wrong. The AQ system for all of it's faults isn't completely wrong but the idea of winning in a weak conference, like the BEast has been, and being rewarded over a more deserving competitor is also flawed.
Right now there is absolutely NO penalty for winning in a conference or winning your CC, in fact the more games you win the better your chances are so winning the CC should be a normal result for MOST teams that make it in, MOST of the time. It's just that winning the CC is not going to be the ONLY determiner which is the way some would like to have it.
The idea of an 8 team playoff with 4 AQ and 4 at large or 5 and 3 is also a possibility, a lot of things could work and work well, the only thing we can be certain of is no matter what system is used somebody is going to complain "unfair", because that is the culture we have created.
