The last time they were inside the scope of Institutional Control by definition (prior to 1983) they were terrible. ku basketball isn't fundamentally better than MU basketball, just during periods when the gap widens regarding following the rules distance between the programs is created (and ku has been on an unprecidented run of unchecked cheating). For about a 15 year period from 1975-1990 MU was the vastly superior program to ku.

Even given all that, MU has been better 2 of the last 4 years than ku in men's basketball, and look to be much better next year as well.
