The danger for the Big 12 is not now

but in 13 years. The Big 12 was a stable conference for 16 years before it almost went the way of the Dodo twice. The underlying imbalances appear to still be there.
Texas was the holdout on the longer grant of rights. Texas tried to forge a new Pac-12. Texas created a LHN that seems more parasitic than partner. It was Texas agreeing (verbally at this point) to a longer grant of rights that stabilized the Big 12. So the stability the Big 12 has is really based on Texas's decisions, not on some sort of common bond or vision among the schools. So long as Texas wants, a Big 12 exists. And that should scare schools, because who knows what Texas will want in 13 years.
