The Kansas City Star
Caught up with Kim English for a column planned for Sundayís paper. Talked to an athlete from K-State and one from Kansas, too, and I hope the column wonít be like what youíre used to reading about college sports. Please check it out.
For now, though, hereís what he said about preparing for the draft:
ďItís awesome. Iím loving it. Iím loving having basketball be my job. Iím loving these workouts, playing in front of (NBA) personnel, the interviews, getting invited to different camps. Itís what Iíve been waiting my whole life for. The draft is (43) days away.Ē
Kim is being represented by Leon Rose, whose clients include fellow Baltimore native Carmelo Anthony, as well as LeBron James and Chris Paul and others. Kim compared the process to picking a school, which he enjoyed, along with the subsequent conversations with NBA folkÖ
ďItís what Iíve been hearing forever. They like my ability to shoot, they like my professionalism, that Iím a student of the game, my ability to guard, my toughness, that I guarded power forwards all this season and made them non-factors. But weíll see. You really donít know what they think of you by what theyíre saying, weíll see what they think of me on draft night.Ē
Kim isnít on most NBA draft projections, most likely needing a free agent deal and then trying to make a roster or choose another professional league.
The only thing he knows for sure is that the next time he plays in an organized game, it wonít be as a power forward.
ďThat is 110% certain,Ē he says.
