Problem I am having, maybe you as well, is that it's not just sticking to the book in the same linear order.
But yes, the masked lady came to the see Daenys in the desert and appears a couple times. The mass throat cutting is there, all tied in with the multiple cities she defeats and the ton of people sacrificed and killed along the way. Typical cinema treatments, always thinking they can tell the story better. Better to just consider them 2 tellings, point of view of the story, and move on. It'll drive you nuts.
I finally gave up on the Harry Potter Movies for that reason. Loved the books, liked the way the movies looked but hated the way they told the story.
