I agree on the first point, and it is no better than what Quantrill did later.

I completely disagree on your second point...and most people are on my side on this one. Just as you point out that "jayhawkers" refers to the border ruffians, I have also show that it's original connotation was something completely different. The Jayhawk mascot in no way, shape or form celebrates the negative history...it is a fictionaly bird for pete's sake.
