I'd bet that they have already talked. However, I don't see UNC going anywhere without Duke and I don't see the SEC taking them both. I think NC State would be the most likely target.
It would be much easier for UVa to bolt the ACC than VT considering all the political posturing it took to get the latter an invitation. While the Cavaliers would be a nice addition, especially academically, I think most SEC loyalists would rather have VT.
My opinion is that if and when the SEC expands again the first two targets will be NC State and VT.
