And I'm betting it had to do with the fact they were pretty sure he wasn't coming here. You don't just give up on a highly touted recruit who has said himself that he was a lifelong Mizzou fan and wanted to play here. That rarely happens. The staff saw the writing on the wall, knew Wainwright was going to take his time because of the offers and attention he was getting, and didn't feel it was in their best interest to wait it out and take the chance of being stuck scrambling for another kid at the last minute.
