I was the civil engineer of record on the design team for the Ed Jones Dome. I'd be interested to know what you consider as short sighted and obsolete about it? I'm not looking to argue the points, just interested in your perspective (call it feedback).

Designers many times may have very grand visions for a project. Those visions can get pulled back by many different reasons including available budgets, codes and regulations, state of current technology, site constraints, Owner's vision or lack thereof, sympathy for surrounding architecture, etc. Most projects, unless the are funded by a strong willed forward thinking Owner with an unlimited budget, wind up being composed of a series of design compromises.

As others have stated, my guess is that the rendering may have elements that the final design may include, but the likelihood of the final design matching the rendering at this early stage is minimal.
