Kentucky voluntarily stayed pro-Union

Missouri was much more of a divided clusterf*** where it was every man for himself. Kentucky ultimately wound up with pretty clear majorities both in its real government and its populace that were against secession.
And one nuance I've discovered as a result of the above probably is - never mention any of that civil war stuff to the Kentucky fans, they get kinda jittery and defensive about it real fast cuz they kinda have this complex about not being quite so much 'real southerners' like the rest of the SEC thinks of itself as. I've even seen the (gasp) Yankee term thrown their way by their SEC bretheren at times.
