I could see us being better but incurring quite a bit more losses if we don't gel right out of the gate.

I'm certainly no proponent of the Big 12 being a tough basketball conference, but that said I don't see any reason to expect we can't win the SEC next year. And I don't think preseason rankings are typically based on potential losses you will occur in the games you have scheduled, they are simply an assessment of each team hypothetically on paper ranked against each other.
