Adding them and Clemson would give them two big FOOTBALL schools which is sorely lacking in the B12 with the 4 schools that have left. They can add all the TCU/Louisville/BYU's they want (giving a nod to WVA) but those types of programs leave the void created when the schools typically considered #3-6 in the conference all left.
The Big 12 will remain in place in some sort of shape for the foreseeable future but adding FSU and Clemson is the one way it will stay a major player in college football. Without them Texas and OU will eventually leave and then you'd have a new version of the MWC or CUSA.
