Democrats controlled the Senate 2001 & 2002. Republicans could not stop a Democrat filibuster in the Senate...ever.
There was pocket lining all right. Fannie and Freddie were run by Democrats like Franklin Raines and Jamie Gorelick who used it like their own personal piggy bank and set policies consistent with Democrat goals like those mentioned in those videos.
Republicans were thwarted in their efforts by Democrats like Bonnie Fwank and Christopher Dodd to reform the loose lending policies that liberals like you had put in place.
