Between 2003-2010, there was ONE team, ONE SINGLE TEAM, that made the final four even though they were outside the top 50 in Defensive Efficiency. That was the Dwyane Wade-powered 2003 Marquette squad, who ranked 101st.
This year, Mizzou ranked 154th. It's a major red flag for how far you should expect to advance in the tournament. Our offense was beautiful, but our defense was unquestionably the Achilles Heel of the 11-12 Tigers. It's very difficult to win championships with the 154th best defense in the nation.
