once the dust settled neither school was thrilled with the prospect of adding 2 more schools that from a Southern perspective are "Far North". In addition ESPN is under no real obligation to throw the ACC a bunch of additional money, and the ACC is ruled by the Tobacco Road schools.

Of which one couldn't care less about Football, and the others while they've dumped a gazzillion dollars into facilities can't seem to gain any significant traction. The ACC is a basketball conference and that's NEVER going to change and Florida State and Clemson know it . . . and Virginia Tech knows it, but doesn't want to admit it out of fear of ticking off Virginia.

While the ACC used to be an advantage for Florida State back when the SEC was pretty mediocre (and it wasn't that long ago that the SEC was pretty mediocre), but now that the SEC has surged and the ACC is still its boring old mediocre self, that's hurt FSU.
