If your going to have 6, why not 8? And I am not a big supporter of the conference champ getting an automatic bid to the playoff. Take the eight best teams determined by the BCS (tweak the formula slightly) and put them in the playoff. I dont care if a conference or two is slighted, that is the breaks. Historically speaking, conference strength will ebb and flow. Last year, there were at least four teams in the SEC that were better than the Big East and the ACC champ. There were three teams in the Big 12 that were better than the Big East or ACC champ.
