6-team playoff would work better IMO, except that they don't

want to add too many games to the playoff.

Could either give byes for the BCS 1/2 in the first round, while 3/4/5/6 play each other, similar format to the Big 12 basketball tourney. I'm sure they'd have to configure some way to split the money evenly between the 6, since 1/2 won't play first round, or just have 1/6, 2/5, 3/4 play and continue that way.
