always be pushing the envelope and be either at a nationally prominent position or else fighting tooth and nail to get back there. So you still get to compare yourself with a national elite program that will get you and your league good exposure, but yet in turn there are far more teams that can be beaten more easily for us.
That said, I remember the early 1990s when the SEC was a star studded powerhouse in basketball so it has the ability to get there again. You had Pitino and Jamal Mashburn and the gang at Kentucky; Todd Day, Lee Mayberry, Oliver Miller and Nolan Richardson at Arkansas; Shaquille O'Neal and Chris Jackson at LSU; Roberty Horry and Latrell Sprewell at Alabama; Billy McCaffrey and his overachieving 'Dores at Vandy, etc. Heck Tennessee was a bottom feeder and even they had a future NBA All-Star on their roster in Alan Houston. So it's a league that can at times be spectacular. We need to take grasp of that #2 spot behind UK as quickly as possible upon entry and hold onto it for as long as we can, cuz some day it will get to be a good league again.
