Why do you believe high school players got drafted ahead of very productive college players??? Why do you think back ups on teams like Duke, North Carolina, and those type teams get drafted before productive starters from other teams???
It's all about where scouts project a player at. Where they see the player 4-5 years down the line. Kobe, Garnett, Bynum, Howard, Stoudemire, and I could go on and on, were drafted based on where they would be 4-5 years down the line. Remember when guys like Marvin Williams who never started a game for North Carolina was picked 2nd overall. Willimas wasn't even the best player on that team. But scouts thought he would become a better pro than May, McCants, and Felton. Some players skill and abilities translate well to the NBA and some do not. No matter how productive they were in college. Some are ready to play right away, but most won't be what they can be fully until 4-5 years down the line and that's what scouts look at.
