worth the trouble-selling covered calls on a stock your willing to part with at a higher price is ok i guess but you could get wiped out if the sock gets crushed or buying a put to protect a huge stock holding after a -big runup makes sense--but why not just sell some of your holding?, but buying calls and selling puts is just pure gambling if you ask me--everything is short-term capital gain if you are right, so you lose 40% right off the top, plus bid-ask spreads when you enter and exit as well as trading commissions.
