A rival is a school that is nearby that has a lot in common with you that you play every year and you are at least somewhat of an even match for, meaning you have a chance to win at least a third of the time and so does the other team.

Schools that could be rivals to Missouri:

more in common with:

kansas
Illinois
Arkansas
Iowa
Kentucky

Less in common with, but could still work:

Nebraska
Tennessee
Oklahoma

kansas has limited options.

There's Oklahoma, but they outclass you severely in football and you outclass them severely in basketball.

Nebraska is almost as bad.

Colorado works in football but not really basketball.

KSU sort of works, but it's not a very interesting matchup to those outside of Kansas.

That leaves you either Missouri or creating a rivalry with some far away school like Texas or in the non-conference like UCLA or Duke.
