Difference between 401K/Roth and extra money

I am buy and hold for index funds, mutual funds, and bond funds for retirement accounts. I am more of an active trader for my stock accounts. I have well outperformed the market since I started investing on my own about 5 or 6 years ago. I am averageing about 8% annual return over those years.

If you keep yourself to only owning 15 stocks or less I think you can beat the market. Watch Mad Money for that advice.
