Do you advocate the "buy and hold" Boglehead philosophy or do you support a more active approach?

I have 4 funds in my 401k (3 are index funds and 1 is a bond fund) and just started a Roth IRA this past year.

I don't like the idea of trying to beat Wall Street but there are times when the market goes way down (9/11 or news about Greece's problems) and I wish I had 10k or so to invest in stocks. I'm trying to be responsible so my leftover money is going to the Roth for now.

I'll try reading through the board to see what it was like in the heyday.
